§ 4-11. Medical expenses incurred by inmates.

  • (a)

    All actual medical expenses incurred by inmates of the Pulaski County detention facility for pre-existing conditions or conditions attributed to the action of the inmate shall be charged to the inmate's account.

    (b)

    All visits to the in-house physician shall be charged to the inmate's account at the rate of five dollars ($5.00) per visit.

    (c)

    All authorized medical expenses and fees shall be collected from the inmate only upon conviction of misdemeanor or felony charges. Expenses of inmates who are not convicted shall be borne by the county.

    (d)

    Inmates with medical insurance shall submit information to the county for submission of claims.

    (e)

    Transportation costs for inmates taken for private treatment shall be charged to the inmate's account.

    (f)

    Nothing in this section shall require payment for medical or associated costs by inmates who are bona fide indigents and have no funds in their inmate accounts. At any time that the inmates acquire funds in their accounts, the cost of the medical care shall be deducted from their accounts.

    (g)

    Nothing in this section shall relieve Pulaski County or the State of Arkansas (for inmates held for the Arkansas Department of Correction) for initial responsibility for medical costs incurred by inmates.
