§ 2-166. Equal employment opportunity and affirmative action policy.

  • (a)

    It being the desire of the quorum court to provide for equal pay for equal work and to provide further for the fair and just treatment of all employees in matters concerning hiring, firing and promotion do therefore declare the following paragraph of this section as policy.

    (b)

    Discrimination against any person in recruitment, examination, appointment, training, promotion, retention, discipline or any other aspect of personnel administration because of political or religious opinions or affiliations or because of race, national origin or other non-merit factors shall be prohibited. Discrimination on the basis of age, sex or physical disability shall be prohibited except where specific age, sex or physical requirements constitute a bona fide occupational qualification necessary to proper and efficient administration.

    (c)

    The personnel committee of the county quorum court shall prepare or cause to be prepared an affirmative action plan which will assure equal opportunity in all aspects of personnel administration. Each department head, elected official and supervisor in county government is responsible for assisting in the preparation of an affirmative action plan and for actively supporting the goals of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.
